Have you ever felt like something is wrong with you? Is it better not to get close to anyone for fear of being hurt? Do you find it difficult to be emotionally attached to others? Are you afraid to trust others?

You may have experienced trauma.

Childhood trauma in particular, can be an indicator of how we grow and thrive in our adult lives. Research shows us how trauma can effect a growing infant and child.

According to the ACES study, an adult who experienced an Adverse Childhood Experience (abuse, poverty, neglect) are more likely to develop a mental illness, experience a physical injury or have less opportunity for education and/or income.

The word trauma is experienced and understood differently for each person. For one person, a particular event may not have left a scar in their minds or hearts. For another person, it can become the reason their life has changed.

Regardless, it is important to understand that we all have our own “stuff”. We all have stories of where we’ve come from, what hurt we’ve endured and how we’re getting on with life now.

We all have basic needs
